Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring caused an actual riot in the audience at its first performance in May 1913. Its loud dissonances and wild roars of sound carried with it a raw, visceral power that still leaves audiences astounded and breathless. It's no understatement to say that The Rite created a tidal wave through the arts that we are still experiencing today. In this course, prepare, pack up your things and go on a journey to an era when all the arts were in revolt, rules were being thrown out the window, Paris was at the epicenter of it all, and five brilliant men -- Diaghilev, Stravinsky, Nijinsky, Roerich and Monteux -- would bring to life a ballet, the likes of which had never been seen.
