    Ballet dancers are known for grace and beauty, but their athleticism often goes unnoticed.  This class explores the strength, flexibility, endurance, and discipline required of ballet dancers at every level.  Through videos and discussion, we'll begin by examining how young dancers train and cross-train to develop ballet techniques, then progress to watching professional dancers in rehearsal and performance to see the remarkable athletic demands behind classical ballet.  Join former professional dancers Joy and Jeffrey Engel for this fascinating class.

    It's the human condition to encounter life challenges and difficulties that we just don't know how to solve. These days, it's not uncommon to wake up uneasy and discouraged. "What do I do about this?!" Round and round we go, trying to figure out how to change the situations and circumstances that bedevil us. Enter Practical Spirituality. What is spirituality, anyway? How does a spiritual worldview or understanding (or lack of one) influence the way we navigate life? In this non-religious class we look at the what, so what, and now what of our personal versions of spirituality and the practical wisdom and guidance they can offer us. You can find solutions to your human problems by discovering a map of your own wisdom and using it as a guide to a rich, meaningful life. Practical Spirituality is where you begin. No class 4/22.

    In this class we will shine the spotlight on the workhorse string instruments of classical music—the violin, viola, cello, and bass. We will explore the history of each of these instruments, the music they inspired, and the ways our musical world combines them to delight audiences. Along the way, we will learn how they are built, how they work, and why they have become such mainstays of the world of concerts. There will be live demonstrations of all four instruments as well as videos.
